How to connect CYPAD to OBS over WebSocket
The OBS WebSocket server lets CYPAD send commands and read the state of your stream. It takes three settings and one test.
Before you start
You need both programs open and a licence that unlocks OBS control. Have this ready before you change anything:
- A PC with Windows 10 or 11 and CYPAD installed from the Microsoft Store
- OBS Studio open on that same PC
- A Pro licence in CYPAD: OBS actions are not part of the Free plan
- The exact names of your scenes and your audio input
Enable the WebSocket server in OBS
In OBS, open Tools → WebSocket Server Settings. Tick Enable WebSocket server and check the port: CYPAD expects 4455, the default value. If you enable authentication, OBS generates a password; copy it.
- 1. Open OBS and go to Tools → WebSocket Server Settings.
- 2. Enable the WebSocket server.
- 3. Note the port (4455 by default) and the password if you use authentication.
- 4. Click Apply and leave OBS open.
Set up the connection in CYPAD
In CYPAD, switch to Stream mode and find the OBS card. The fields are the ones OBS has just shown you.
- 1. In the OBS card, enter the host: 127.0.0.1 if OBS runs on the same PC.
- 2. Enter the port: 4455 unless you changed it in OBS.
- 3. Paste the password if you enabled it; if not, leave the field empty.
- 4. Click Connect or Test connection and read the message.
Create your first OBS keys
Once the connection works, each action is a normal button on the pad. In New → Button, choose the OBS action and then what it should do.
- 1. Choose the OBS action and select streaming, recording, scene or mute.
- 2. For a scene, type the exact name that appears in OBS.
- 3. For mute, type the exact audio input name, for example Mic/Aux.
- 4. Give the key a visible label and save the button.
Check that everything responds
Run each key and watch OBS: streaming should start, the scene should change and the mic should mute. A second later, the pad key lights up if the state is active. The active scene key lights on its own when that scene is in program.
You do not have to press Connect before every action: when an OBS action runs, CYPAD attempts a connection with the saved host and port.
If the connection fails
The note under the OBS form shows the last connection message, and Test connection refreshes it. These are the usual causes:
- "Enable obs-websocket in OBS to connect": the server is still disabled; check the box in OBS.
- The port does not match: if you changed it in OBS, type the same value in CYPAD.
- Wrong password: copy it again from OBS or disable authentication while testing.
- OBS is not open or was closed while you were configuring.
- The scene or input does not exist under that exact name; copy it from the OBS panel.
- The action is locked behind the Pro padlock: without a licence, OBS is not available.
- If OBS runs on another machine, use its address as the host and allow the port in the firewall.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find the WebSocket port in OBS?
In Tools → WebSocket Server Settings. The default is 4455; if you change it there, type the same number in the OBS card in CYPAD.
Is a password required?
Only if you enable authentication in OBS. In that case, copy the password OBS generates and paste it into CYPAD; otherwise leave the field empty.
Do I have to connect every time I open CYPAD?
You can use Connect or Test connection to check the link. On top of that, when an OBS action runs, CYPAD tries to connect with the saved details. If you change host, port or password, test the connection again.
Does it work if OBS is on another PC?
The host field accepts another address. Both machines must be on the same network and the port must be allowed in the firewall.
